Rutland Herald Fall Sports Guide 2 Friday, October 6, 2017 Be a good sport As a community we should all be com- mitted to promoting the proper ideals of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and fair play at all athletic activities. We should oppose instances and activities, which run counter to the best values of athletic competition in order to ensure the well being of all individual players. We should expect acceptable standards of good citizenship and propriety with proper regard for the rights of others. We should be committed to the belief that schools participating in interscho- lastic athletic activities should be held responsible for the conduct of their players, coaches, faculty, parents and any other spectator. A few things to keep in mind as a fan: — Keep cheering positive. There should be no profanity or degrading language/ gestures. — Avoid actions, which offend visiting teams or individual players. — Show appreciation of good play by both teams. — Learn the rules of the game in order to be a better-informed spectator. —Treat all visiting teams in a manner in which you would expect to be treated. — Accept the judgment of coaches and officials. — Be good role models for athletes. A little common sense goes a long way to make the sports experience a good one for the players and the spectators. Thank you! The staff of the Rutland Herald would like to thank all of the athletic directors who worked with us to make this section possible. Without their dedication to the students and the communities they serve, the success of the programs at our high schools would not be assured. A tip of the hat to their continued efforts.
