ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACTIVITY
ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
BEFS continues to evolve as a membership
organisation. We reduced the fee for individual
membership from £200 to £10 and introduced a
new academic associate category. By July 2014 BEFS
has 11 new individual associates, 4 new associate
organisations (PAS, Royal Incorporation of Architects
in Scotland, Architecture and Design Scotland and the
Institute of Conservation Scotland Group) as well as
two new academic associates – Heriot Watt University
and the University of Highlands and Islands - Orkney
College.
Other developments included a successful preapplication submission to HLF for a new Scottish
Towns project to be developed into a full bid later
in 2014 and the ongoing partnership as part of the
Resourcing Scotland’s Heritage project which has
generated additional income for BEFS.
As part of BEFS’s growth and development there is
ongoing dialogue with a wide range of organisations
to discuss matters of mutual concern and areas for
possible future collaboration. An agreement was
reached with the Raymond Lemaire International
Centre for Conservation to take an intern for six weeks
from July 2014 to do a follow-up piece of research to
the Measuring Success workstream that will look at
how other countries have approached the challenge
of developing systems to monitor their policies and
strategies in respect of the conservation of the historic
environment.
BEFS relocated in early September 2014 to new
offices in Princes Street. We are sharing the space with
RICS Scotland, who have moved from Manor Place,
PAS and the Scottish Arbitration Centre providing
opportunities for collaboration and information
sharing.
