THE HALF MOON INN
The Half Moon is a sixteenth century , Grade Two listed historic fishing inn , which dates back to 1540 . Nestled in the heart of the traditional , unspoilt Devon village of Sheepwash and overlooking the Torridge valley .
Since the inn was purchased in 2017 , it has received a gentle refurbishment , the inn has retained much of its original character and if you close your eyes you can imagine what it would have been like in a bygone era , when you walk in the door , you immediately feel at home with an open log fire and attractive bar which is what makes this place so unique . Led by Pearl this close-knit team have worked hard to return this place to the Countryman ’ s inn it once was .
The Half Moon is one of the last remaining fishing inn ’ s within Devon with its own four-mile stretch of the river Torridge , where you can expect to catch wild brown trout , salmon and sea trout , reeling in anglers for all over the country . Welcoming syndicates of guns , the inn works closely with a number of local estates during the shooting season , November through to the end of January . Ideally situated this is a great place to explore Devon and Cornwall together with access to the Tarka Trail & Coast to Coast cycle route .
The annexe is perfect for those who wish to bring their dogs , providing easy access to the courtyard and parking area . Pets are invited to sit with their owners in the bar area which is also used by the locals . Thirteen rooms are available some with exposed beams and low windows and one boasting a sloping floor ! A large dining room , bar , snug , rod room and small fishing tackle shop for those who need to hire a rod or purchase flies .
With an ‘ open to all ’ approach , home cooked food , local ales , quality wine and a warm atmosphere makes this the place you will want to stay .
During the past year the inn has received awards from : Trip Advisor -Travellers Choice Award ‘ Best of the Best 2020 ’ rating within the top 10 % of hotels worldwide , together with a Booking . com 9.3 award and 5 gold stars on Google , the hard work the team are putting in certainly speaks for itself .
