Nothing Can Be Loved or Hated Unless It is First Known
Have you ever loved and hated one place at the same time? Ihappened to find a posting on a blog when I was planning to travel around Mexico; ‘Real deCatorce is a hidden town on the side of a mountain at more than 2,743 meters. You will experience a lot of things, and even climb the mountain riding horse…..’ This town is said to be one of the places that we must visit once in our lives.Real de Catorce is Royal Fourteen in Spanish. It was named for 14 Spanish soldiers killed in the town.
It was not easy to get there because a couple of things disturbed the journey. A rough road revealed while driving to the north side of San Luis Potosí State. The reason why the road could be the obstacle was that it is the longest cobblestone road in the world. The bus passed some houses, cactus and animals on the road winding the mountain.
After about an hour the bus stopped, but another small bus waited for visitors. There was no choice but to take the small bus to pass the final hurdle. The tunnel leaded us to the town. Finally, the ghost town let it show.
Many people roamed around the town on the weekend. Visitors roved and some children touted on the street around the entrance of the town. A desolate landscape unfolded behind the vibrant people. Cobblestones drew patterns on the streets, and the houses made of stone arranged along the streets. The houses that should have been pulled down seemed abandoned on the streets.Mountains stretched away like walls. Faded colors described trace of the passing years.
Hotels and hostels popped up on the rising and falling street, but the only thing we could do was just passing because there was no room. Our destination was the peak on the street. That was not a hotel or hostel. That was a guest house. Anyway, it looked like a guest house. The terrible guest house helped us not to be behind the schedule.
