to some extent, demonstrates the reason for the protagonist’s lack of sense of authenticity.
It is hard for us to find our authentic self. This process requires large amount of
time, effort, and even pain. Some construct their reality with blood and violence, to wit,
cutting and self-harm, to be authentic. Some frame their life with other’s expectations and
judgements. We still struggle to reach the authentic self even we know its cost--due to the
sense of well-being it provides. Though the process is tough, the outcome, for most
people, worth it.
