Freedom and Control
BY LIU ZHIJUN
FREEDOM AND CONTROL, it seems like those two
words locate on two extremes and will never interrelate
with each other. How to define freedom? Carter de-
scribes this word as “free to do certain things” that “real-
ize one’s true nature” (Carter 4). What is true nature?
Whenever people feel fatigued, they could fall fast
asleep and snore as soon as they like, leaving everything
behind. But in the real world, people cannot follow all
their inclinations. While having a degree of freedom,
people are controlled both in workplaces and free time
and restricted by both people around and themselves.
