COMPOSITION-Don ' t paint without it! COMPOSITION is the arrangement of various features within the picture. My type of COMPOSITION consists of 9 important ' ingredients '.
1. The RULE OF THIRDS 2. FOCAL POINT 3. TONAL VALUES 4. BALANCE 5. MERGERS BEWARE 6. SIMPLICITY 7. LEAD-IN TO FOCAL POINT 8. FRAME 9. ROOM TO BREATHE
*** REMEMBER these ingredients are only GUIDELINES and NOT RULES!.. So.. they can be broken! It ' s worth noting that I ' ve been painting in watercolour for more than 30 years and already sold 99 % of my watercolour pieces locally and abroad, and 1 % for my personal keep. Not my intention to boast or anything like that but to proof that these ' ingredients ' really work and very powerful.
I can ' t promise that you ' ll be a master watercolour painter overnight by using these ' ingredients '. There is no short cut, you have to keep on painting and practice... practice... and practice, until you get the ' FEEL '. In this post I ' ll only explain the first part-The RULE OF THIRDS.
