Star Players

Unfortunately due to monetary problems Argentina cannot afford a premier first division, and the majority of their players star in French, and English teams abroad. On the bright side there are multiple of their players are world class, and play important roles in their respective clubs such as Marcelo Bosch at the Saracens in England, or Agustin Creevy of Montpellier, France. Although this is the case as of now, SANZAR has accepted Argentina's proposal for a super rugby team, playing in the premier world club tournament will undoubtedly benefit the national squad. One unfortunate aspect of this Argentinian side is the lack of depth. There are areas such as prop, and hookers were the Argentinian team has very strong replacements, although out wide there are less experienced back ups. Injuries do happen in a physical sport such as rugby, if Argentina wishes to continue on to the final stages of the tournament they are going to need to expect the worst.

How They've Fared

Argentina's best result at a Rugby World Cup came in the form of 3rd place in 2007. The result shocked many when Argentina beat host France 34-10. In 2011 Argentina performed well through the pools, losing only to an in form English team in a close, and questionable match. Argentina went on to the quarters were they faced host New Zealand, the team performed well through the opening stages, but could not keep up with the All Blacks on the score board and got knocked out of the world cup. Since then Argentina have joined the southern hemisphere giants of New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia in the rugby championship, the team have had some great results, and have improved tremendously, but have only won one match in the scalp of Australia.
