RUGBY CLUB
Carnoustie Rugby Club have been enjoying a fantastic season and
have plenty to look forwards to in 2020. Rugby Club Magazine recently
caught up with their President Colin Murray to find out more about
the good work the club has been doing lately.
Involvement Atmosphere
Colin told us, “I have been involved with Carnoustie
HSFP RFC since season 2007, I had retired from
playing in 2005 however, I visited the club to watch an
International match and was persuaded to play and
have done so until the end of season 2017/18.
Following this I took on the role as head coach and
now I’m in my 2nd year as club president. I have always
found the club and those involved in the running of it,
very approachable and a fantastic family atmosphere
where everyone feels at home.” “The mood in the club at the moment is very good,
with the 1st XV leading their league, this obviously helps.
However, we have invested in a number of initiatives up
at our playing fields, in particular the “Boars Hut” which
provides tea, coffees and snacks for all the supporters.
They love it as it’s a welcome shelter in the inclement
weather we have in Angus!”
The Role
“As president my biggest challenge is to attract new
and retain exiting players as well as securing ongoing
sponsorship for the club. This year we have seen a
significant increase in players, both young and old as
well as continued sponsorship from local businesses and
organisations. This all helps to keep the club running
financially and provides the basics for our club to run
and helps encourage new players and supporters.”

This Season
“Our season is going very well. We have suffered
only one defeat, which was the first league game of the
season away to Kirkcaldy. We have a great home record
and hope that this continues throughout the rest of the
season.
Our mini section is leading the way and have
been very successful in all the tournaments they have
competed in. Our Midi section (U14) have a great team
and are unbeaten in all the tournaments they have
played in. This is great to see and encouraging for the
club’s future. Our (U16) team are new to their league
and although suffering a few defeats have good numbers
training and regularly playing. This is a testament to all
the coaching staff within the club.”
