RUGBY CLUB
Commitment, inclusion and teamwork. Buzzwords you might expect
to find on the website of any modern-day sports club. But at Dalziel
we wear our hearts on our sleeves - because rugby is a way of life.
Above all, our historic club
– situated at the tremendous
facilities
at
Dalziel
Park,
Motherwell - is distinguished by
passion. We strongly believe in
the transformational qualities of
grassroots sport, the ability to unite,
drive and inspire the young (and not
so young!) to reach their potential -
on and off the park.
Developing and playing home
grown players, at youth level, is the
foundation stone of Dalziel Rugby
Club. Our annual youth festival –
every April - is widely considered
to be the best of its kind on Scottish
64 Issue 89
shores, attracting teams from across
the UK and beyond.
Over the years, the club has
developed many young players
and made contributions to the
Lanarkshire,
Glasgow
District
and National Rugby Teams with
a number of under 18, under 19
and under 20 players gaining
international honours at those levels.
Some of our players have even made
their mark on the global stage – and
it all links back to our impact at local
level.
Currently our first team plays in
Tennent’s West Regional Division 2
with a further two senior teams and
a vibrant Midi and Mini (U-18 to
P1) section running out every week.
We always welcome new members
– playing or non-playing – and we
offer the Dalziel guarantee that you
will be warmly welcomed into our
vibrant, friendly and inclusive rugby
community.
Rugby Club Magazine recently
caught up with their President
Duncan Morton to find out more
about how the club has been getting
along lately. Duncan told us, “I’ve
been involved with DL RFC since
1972 when I left school. My father
