Joe recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine, saying, “Our connection with the club is really through another local businessman Kevin Corcoran who we have always admired for the contribution he has made to our local community. Corky would be a real asset to any sports club and seems to have given much to the young people over the years who he has coached down there. As a local business H&K Interiors are keen to support local initiatives whenever we can and myself and Simon would like to wish everyone at MU Barnhall RFC the very best of continued success for many years to come!” Keiran and Douglas Clancy have had a long and positive association with Barnhall Rugby Club. Out of seven children, six boys and a girl, all boys played for MU Barnhall, Douglas is possibly the longest serving player in the clubs history and he recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “I have great memories from when I started playing as a six-year-old, at a time when the club was in its early days and didn’t have much so we would get changed in an old hut at the bottom of the field. Being one of six boys, I think my dad wanted to get us out from under his feet and pointed us in the direction of the rugby club. My brothers lined up in the following positions: Kieran (anywhere in the backs, Noel (Full Back), Brian (Outhalf), Myself (Scrum half), Alan (Back Row) and Gareth (Back row). At 45 I have still kept lacing my boots up and apart from the usual injuries I have been lucky to not sustain any 42 Issue 89 serious ones. The next generation of Clancy’s are coming through now with Kieran’s boys Conor and Dylan playing scrum half and flanker and Alan’s son Luca now playing for the U14’s. Kieran’s business Industrial Tyre specialists are long standing club sponsors also. Barnhall RFC are a very close knit and well-run club that have achieved a huge amount in a relatively short time. They are the essence of a one club mentality looking after all age groups at the club. I will continue to play as long as I can although it has to be one game at a time now. Myself, Kieran and all the Clancy family would like to congratulate everyone associated with MU Barnhall RFC on another great season with best wishes for the remainder of the 2019/2020 campaign and hopefully another piece of Barnhall history to be added to the record!”
