Rugby is a great way to help people come together and offers young and old a means of fun and community. He told Rugby Club Magazine, “I have many fond memories of the Discos I attended at the club but I suppose it was really through my son George that I became involved. George came all the way through the club’s junior ranks before heading off to University in Glasgow, he loved his rugby and was a great and tricky backs player usually on the wing or in one of the centre positions. He was also part of the pioneering School of Rugby which has been an outstanding initiative helping to develop many young players over the years providing them with a great place to express their energy. Myself and my wife Carolyn are very grateful for the opportunity George and all young people have received through the club and the values and life skills which we feel have been to their benefit. One of my abiding memories was when Glasgow hosted the commonwealth games and schools were invited to showcase a dance as a representation of sport. On the night of the dance no one expected George and his rugby team mates, who were chosen to perform, to thunder onto the stage at the theatre and provide a spectacular performance in contrast to the other acts providing such an original display which overwhelmed everyone receiving the events top accolade! Myself, Carolyn and George would like to wish everyone associated with Haddington Rugby Club the very best of continued success for many years to come!” www.rugbyclubmag.com 37
