aberdare Aberdare RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB Aberdare RFC is a fine example of a well-run community establishment and work hard to play an important role in their local area. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Secretary Darren Parry to find out more about the good work that they’ve been doing lately. Involvement Darren told us, “As a parent through to this stage I have been involved with the club for seventeen years now. I never played for Aberdare but got involved when my children started to play. I’m Club Secretary and I’m enjoying the role. We have a committee structure in place where everyone has a role and carry out their own duties so it is working well. There is quite a bit to do particularly in regard to liaising with the RFU but it is all fairly well run which makes it much easier for me. In the current climate the company has to be run as a business and we brought in a Business Manager around five years ago which takes some of the pressure off of the rest of the committee.” Atmosphere “It is an exciting time for the club at the moment and we feel that we are in a good place at the moment both on and off the field. There is a positive environment here at the club where people can come and enjoy their rugby and it is important that we continue to work hard to provide good coaches and facilities so that everybody here is happy. We also host the Cynon Valley Timbers Female Rugby Club and they play and train on our facilities and they have been a welcome addition here over the last two years and are keen to keep that partnership going for the foreseeable future.” Present “We brought in a new coaching group at the beginning of the season with Lee Evans coming in and they’ve been a breath of fresh air. The boys have bought into it and thankfully the results have been going our way. There have been some tight games and we’ve maybe had the bounce of the ball on a few www.rugbyclubmag.com 31
