Paul Cusack comes from a rugby family with himself,
brother Sean and dad John having worn the distinctive
black and yellow colour of Cockermouth Rugby Club.
He recently told Rugby Club Magazine, “As well as
being a full back for the club my dad was also a mini
Coach and as a ten year old I would venture along
to the club with him, naturally becoming involved. My
career took me all over the North of England with clubs
like Gosforth in my early 20s years before moving on
to Orrell and Aspatria and coming full circle back to
Cockermouth. Myself and Sean both played in the
1996–97 Rugby Union County Championship for
Cumbria beating Somerset 21-13.
The current squad have the great advantage of working
across two spectrums of players, young and older, with
the likes of Adam Brough, Stef Highton, Sam Wilson
and Paul Greening balancing out the speed and energy
of the younger players. Growing our own talent has
always been a strength at Cockermouth Rugby Club
with many generations of dads and sons still involved.
Cockermouth Travel have had the privilege of
sponsoring this great family club in many different
ways over the past forty years and watching it operate
in such safe hands today. The club have not only a
great mix on the committee but very able coaching
staff across all age groups and all whilst having a lot of
fun and friendship. Long may it continue!”
