He told us, “I live locally so when Xander, who was in primary two at the time, showed an interest in joining the club I took him along to try it out. It wasn’t too long before I was coaching his team. Now at age 12, and recovering from an eye operation, he still enjoys his Rugby as does his younger brother Fergus who followed him into the sport and can’t get enough of it literally living and breathing rugby. Both of my sons are definitely forward players like their dad and I can still occasionally be seen turning out in the second row position for the over 35’s. 72 Issue 89 “I started playing rugby in the clubs midi section and still turn out for the club aged 40. Although predominantly a back-row player I’ll will play wherever needed. I also coach my son’s team and both Yestyn and my daughter Esme are players at the club I can’t speak highly enough about Colin Murray’s contribution to the club and the great committee who support the club and each other. The 1st XV have been building over the past few years and have a nucleus of team members who are committed to each other. My business Greencastle Home Improvements are a club sponsor and are proud to support Carnoustie. Kevin Franco, man of the match in the recent win against DUMs also spearheads the School of Rugby in the local school ensuring the inclusion of young people into the club and contributes to the rugby festival. Winning the league this year will mean everything to the team and the club and although I feel my playing career is now coming to an end Carnoustie Rugby Club will continue into the distant future!” Owen Hughes As a coach I get to meet a lot of parents and see how they enjoy our club first-hand. The development of both girls and boys is a real joy to watch and as a club VP I do my best to attend the seniors home games. The brand of rugby they are displaying at the moment is great on the eye and will hopefully take them beyond the winning post before the season end. Our business Sarah Gray Jam have been a sponsor for the past four years and we enjoy supporting the club in any way we can. Myself, Sarah and the boys wish everyone associated with Carnoustie Rugby Club the very best of continued success for many more years to come!”
