sharing facilities, fund raising events and other ideas.
We also have a very close relationship with the local
Parish council indeed we were asked by the council to
be part of their team for the ‘best village in Somerset’
bid reiterating the fantastic opportunities available
within the village. We have a good relationship with the
local newspapers and circulars who generously provide
plenty of coverage.
RC: What do you believe could be some of the biggest
challenges the club may face in the coming years?
NH: The challenges for community voluntary
clubs and organisations are broadly similar – securing
sufficient people interested in giving up their valuable
time to support their club. We are currently blessed with
very many active volunteers but are not complacent
and realise we need to maintain momentum within the
club and ensure it is a place people want to spend their
precious spare time.
RC: What are the club’s ambitions for the next five
years?
NH: On the pitch, we recognise that as a small
community rugby club, we need to manage expectations
so while promotion is important, we do not wish to over
stretch ourselves. We are particularly keen to develop
our junior age groups and ensure the ladies section is
thriving.
Off the pitch, we have worked with the council to
secure a large grant from Hinckley Point so will build
a community social facility in the next twelve months
which will provide an opportunity to enhance club
cohesion. We also have some other plans for additional
58 Issue 87
facilities development such as floodlights but ultimately,
we just wish for all those involved to continue to have
enjoyment through rugby whether playing, coaching or
supporting.
