Llandudno FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG “Last season went well, losing only one league game, considering the injury count we had, yes we could have done better in the National Cup but on and off the field has been great. With the backing of a great general committee, secretary and treasurer and not forgetting all the supporters who followed the team everywhere. “We expect the 2019/20 season will be challenging, we need to focus on retaining the Division One North League and Cup and will see how we progress in the National Cup. Then off the field of play we need to improve our playing surfaces, ground development and club facility’s. “Youth Rugby is very important at our club as we know they are the future, sadly we did not field a youth team last season, but will be this season. We invested heavily in playing floodlights so as to allow our youth to play evenings as well as weekends, as we find some need to work Saturdays, so it gives the lads a choice, as long as the opposition agree. The youth train with the seniors to give them confidence and improve the skill sets, especially in the contact areas. “We are definitely a community club; sadly our club is situated in a troubled area where there have been two female drug related deaths in the last few months, so we have successfully applied for planning permission to enclose our pitches for the safety of all our players, members and the community as a whole. Then we want to progress to install CCTV to monitor the situation, we have the urdd, local Morris dancers having area competitions, army displays, every year we have a welly tournament for 8 to 11 year olds in memory of Llewelyn Evans who died in the first gulf war with over 400 youngsters taking part. “The whole community gets involved and helps, Sodexo helps with allowing parking at the local schools car park as a PFI Council partner, the local council, with road guarding traffic management and lots of locals help out. Hungry Harry’s our kitchen concession does a fantastic job. The industrial compound next to the club also assists with the car parking. “We face massive challenges in the years ahead, funding is always hard, all club members are volunteers and give there all, but as always it is the same people year in year out, keeping all involved and interested as we all get burn out due to work and family commitments. “The coming years will be very hard as we see a national decline in youths continuing to play rugby so we need to get a good balance of rugby and community using our facility. We will definitely need to diversify to keep it financially feasible and attractive for all to continue attending Llandudno Rugby club. “Our club ambitions are that we must continue being successful on the fields, contending every year In the North Wales league and cup competitions and getting as far as we can in the National Cup competitions. Not just our 1st XV, but all teams at the club including the 2nd XV, youth, getting our vets out of there wheelchairs and back on the fields of play as well. “We must have the addition of a players lounge and new bar area at our club and we must keep up our partnership with all the agencies, police, council, community’s and charity’s we support, St. DAVIDS hospice and Llandudno RNLI. We want to keep developing the club into a successfully run club for the community as a whole to use.” Huw at Teejac, kit manufacturers and suppliers to Llandudno RFRC, would like to congratulate everyone at the club on an outstanding season wishing everyone all the best for the 2019/2020 campaign! 54 Issue 87
