RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
N
orthampton Casuals RFC enjoyed a fine season this time around
which saw them clinch promotion. Rugby Club Magazine recently
caught up with their Director of Rugby James Franklin to gain an
insight into their success.
Involvement The Role
He told us, “I first when down to the club as a three-
year-old, we moved to a new house and happened to
have the 1st XV captain as a new next-door neighbour.
My dad was still playing at that point and became 3 XV
captain a year or two later. Over the years he has also
held the roles of Public Relations Officer, Chairman,
President and is still a one of seven trustees of the club.
I started to play in the M&J section at the age of 4
(1982), going on to play through every age grade to
senior rugby and have just completed my 25th season of
1 XV rugby, making my 1st XV debut in 1994.” “I am a previous 1 XV captain having stood for three
years; I am currently the Director of Rugby for the club.
I have been in this role for four years now. Within this
role I get to have a foot in both camps - sitting on the
management committee to help run the club and as I am
still playing I have a good relationship with the younger
players of the club from training and playing with them.”
