Fawley “I have lived in the area for thirty years and played against a lot of the guys who are now on the committee. I’ve sponsored the club for ten years and it is nice to see them moving forward to the higher divisions. I would like to get down to the club more but always keep up to date with how they are getting along. Congratulations on a great season, the success was brought on by all the hard work everyone put in. The club has good young talent coming through and provides a solid platform for youngsters to transition into the senior game. All the best for the coming seasons!” Shaun Armstrong a higher league. Our first target will be to consolidate our position in the league and that should give us a solid platform from which to build. “Youth development is very important to us and is the key to the continuation of the club because they are our future players. Since we’ve moved to our current location the youth section has grown from around twenty to 140 now and is still growing. The junior section is becoming very successful and going out and beating some of the biggest clubs in the area. “We have a couple of years before we see the junior players stepping up into senior rugby so it is going to be important to create a clear pathway for them as the last thing we want to do is lose any players because they’ve not been handled correctly. “We had a girls team in the past but struggled for numbers which made it difficult but we’re hoping to build that side of the club and once we manage to build our clubhouse we will hopefully be more attractive in that regard. “Building our clubhouse is the biggest challenge for us moving forward both from a financial point of view and gaining planning permission. We have been doing a lot of work with the council so we are hopeful regarding the planning permission and then it will be a case of working hard to raise the required funds. “Five years from now I would like to see us competing in the Hampshire Premier League with all of our junior section age groups filled in and the clubhouse complete. That would set us up for a bright and successful future for many years to come.” www.rugbyclubmag.com 37
