After school I studied with UCC and while studying there played front row hooker for our very good University side. “The natural progression was then to go to Cork Con and although I played competitively till age 37, when a knee injury put an end to my career, I did turn out for the minors at age 59 when the team were short on away match to Kerry. I played on the wing that day and remember the age difference between myself and my opposite number was 40 years and three weeks, I pulled my hamstring towards the end of the first half and by the final whistle we were well behind our opponents – my last game! “I attended most of the first XV’s home games last season and witnessed some great plays against some very strong opposition in a very tough league! Cork Con have always produced very successful rugby playing sides and I suppose the facts speak for themselves having won the AIL six times in its history, reaching many finals over those years and remaining the only club never to have been relegated. To this day they have an outstanding ability to produce excellent rugby players. “My three sons are all products of Cork Con underage section with Eion progressing to senior rugby playing wing forward and captain for the minors, Brian currently plays either wing, centre or fullback for Vancouver Rowing Club and Paul plays No 8 for Old Wesley Rugby Club in Dublin. “My business Daly Derham Donnelly have sponsored the club over many years and always enjoyed supporting their teams. Moving forward I would encourage all my friends at Cork Con to continue the traditions which have kept the club competing since 1892. I wish everyone associated with Cork Con FC the very best of continued success for manyy more seasons to come!” www.rugbyclubmag.com 11
