Cork Constitution FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Former professional rugby player for Munster and previously a player for Cork Con, Jonny Holland recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine about his positive association with Cork Con FC, saying, “I am the assistant coach with Cork Constitution’s senior team and have enjoyed being part of the great success the club has enjoyed this season. I retired from the game at 25 due to a hamstring injury and decided to complete a post graduate degree in Applied Sports & Exercise Nutrition. During my time as an athlete I focused a lot on my nutrition and doing as much as I could to lead a healthy lifestyle and achieve my goals. Professional rugby gave me the exposure to top class coaches in all areas including nutrition, sports science, mental skills and balancing my lifestyle so I have been able to bring this knowledge to Cork Con. Fitness and a strong mental attitude has been a big part of this season’s success and although the danger for any club, coming off the back of a championship winning season is complacency I feel that our coaching team are experienced enough to ensure that the potential pitfalls and challenges are addressed appropriately. My business Jonny Holland Nutrition offer performance nutrition advice to sports clubs and feel we can make a difference to your personal or team’s performance. I would like to congratulate everyone at Cork Con on another great season, wishing them all the best for the 2019/2020 campaign!” 10 Issue 87 “Winning all four trophies two years ago was probably the highlight of my time with the club. We went unbeaten in every competition we entered which was very special for us. It is great to see the success that we’ve had and a very committed group of players with a fantastic, competitive attitude has been key for us. There’s a great camaraderie at the club and that has always been a part of Cork Con throughout its 126 year existence. The teams have always been very committed and I think last season we were able to play a more open brand of rugby and that has been reflected in the number of points we were able to rack up. We were pleased with how the season went and were pleased with the way that we were able to raise our level in the knockout games, finding a way to come away with the result in the final. I think we’ve a few players moving on now so realistically it is going to be difficult to repeat our feats of last season as it is very much going to be a team in transition. We will still have that ambition to challenge again now and there is going to be a chance for some young players to step up and I’m looking forwards to seeing how they go.” Brian Hickey
