Sevenoaks
Adam Bowman is the head coach of Sevenoaks RFC. He told us, “I am
a local lad who played rugby myself at county level for my school and at
University, mainly as a tight head prop but due to shoulder injuries I had
to stop playing.”
“Whilst working at Sutton Valence School one of the dads asked me to
come down to the club and after coaching the academy for ten years I have
coached the club’s senior sides for the past three seasons.
“Sevenoaks are fortunate to have so many great people to contribute
to this fabulous club and its journey. The coaching team and I drive a
one squad approach and of course a one club philosophy is apparent
throughout. We have a healthy level of competition within our senior
teams with the majority of our seconds having played 1st team rugby.
Sevenoaks Rugby club is a special place to be on a Sunday morning with
the full array of our mini and juniors on display.
“Next season our 1st XV will naturally be to find our feet within the
higher division with the goal of our 2nds and thirds to win their respective
leagues. The hunger and desire to develop and improve underpins our
club whilst making it an open, friendly, all-inclusive place to visit and we
are all looking forward to the new challenges of the 2019/20 campaign!”

Trevor Nicholson is club chairman at Sevenoaks
RFC. He told us, “I went to Sevenoaks School and
continued playing for the club up until eight years
ago, mainly as a number 8, occasional 2nd row
player and part of many vets games and tournaments
over the years.”
“These days my twin children Lottie and
Stanley are playing in the club’s mini section which
combined with our junior section is very much a
vibrant part of our club.
“We are very much a community club,
passionate about maintaining our amateur status
but running ourselves in a professional manner,
vowing never to pay our players. We really feel that
this is a sure way of killing ambition within our club
and teams which has been proven to damage many
a club time and time again. Thankfully the RFU are
starting to address these issues.
“Adam Bowman has had a great influence on
our senior squad this season; the squad system he
has set up has no hierarchy with everyone training
together which means they are all on the same page
so to speak, allowing for easy transition between
squads, eradicating any new boy scenarios.
“We have one of the youngest squads in the
league and looking at next year’s fixture lists we
will face some tough opposition, however as an old
hooker who I know once said its 60% mental and
last season I believe that was our strength.
“Many visitors including RFU officials have
often commented on our club and its welcoming
atmosphere which we aim to maintain and I and
everyone at the club are very much looking forward
to the challenges of the 2019/2020 campaign!”
