Marlborough FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Marlborough RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB Marlborough RFC is a fine example of a club playing an important role in their local community and is working hard to continue to progress ahead of the 2019/20 season. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative Leila Nairne to find out more about the good work they’ve been doing lately. Atmosphere Success Leila told us, “The Club has a great feeling at the moment, it is very positive and yes, we’re all a little tired, but we can’t wait for the 2019/2020 season to start. We are already working towards getting everything ready for the start of the season. During the summer the coaches will be updating their training, organising kit, attracting Sponsorship both new and old and putting the wheels in motion for tours and so forth. The bar area will be having a revamp which Ramsbury Brewery is doing for us (one of our Sponsors), so hopefully a more pleasant environment will be achieved and will hopefully attract more hires for the Club.” “Every age group has lots to celebrate, we have had players playing in Dorset & Wilts County matches within the various age groups and we still have a player in Bath’s Academy Development programme. Mini/Juniors have had successful Festivals and Tournaments. A few more of the age groups have been away on Tour where they have had a great time. The Colts have been a true success this year, when many Clubs have folded with this age group because they can’t attract the numbers. We have benefited from this to a degree as we have attracted new players. The lads won the D & W Colts Plate; we have never won any silverware with this age group and so it was wonderful to see. Hopefully some of those who are not off to University will be moving up to the seconds and maybe even the firsts? We do lose a lot of the Colts as they tend to go off to University, often a good distance away. The Senior sides are just going from strength to strength and we are attracting new players. The seconds won promotion to D & W N1, again this is the first time in our history that we have had a second team two leagues below the first team. The firsts finished in fourth position, which was a fantastic result as this was the first season that we had played in Southwest 1 East, at one point it looked that we may have been in the play- offs, but the one thing we can take away is that we were the only side in the league to beat Newbury Blues (who have been promoted).” 54 Issue 86
