RUGBY CLUB MAGAZINE’S SCOTTISH COMMUNITY CLUB OF THE SEASON
RUGBY CLUB
Boroughmuir Rugby Club is a fine example of a club that plays an
important role in their local community. Rugby Club Magazine recently
caught up with Club Representative Melissa Readman to find out more
about the good work that they’ve been doing lately.
Atmosphere
Melisssa told us, “The mood at the club is really positive.
The atmosphere at the final game of the season (a win against
Melrose) was fantastic. We have put a lot of effort over the
years into giving the place a friendly and open atmosphere
ensuring that whether it’s your first time, or 100th time, you
feel welcome.
We run three Senior teams, and each one plays in the highest
possible league it can – we’re unique in Scotland on that basis.
We’ve started to embed our “One Club, One Culture, One
Community” vision, the feeling within the club and the wider
community is that we are building something special and all
pulling in the same direction.”
2018
“2018 was a very busy year. Running a club is demanding
at the best of times, but 2018 felt even busier than normal. We
set ourselves the target of successfully bidding to be part of the
U18s winning the Cup last Sunday
Ricky Nicol is the CEO of Commsworld, the main sponsor of Boroughmuir Rugby Club’s 1st XV and Youth Academy. Ricky
recently took time out to speak with Rugby Club Magazine, saying, “I suppose I really got to know Boroughmuir Rugby Club
through my friendship with Steve Langmead who has been a great advocate of rugby and of course the club. I have always been
more of a round ball man but over the years as I have been more exposed to the club and rugby generally, I have come to enjoy
this great sport and witness the values it offers.”
“I was particularly attracted to Boroughmuir when I saw the amount of community work they carry out and the outstanding effort
put in by members! My direct experience has been that although they excel in the rugby stakes, they are very much an all-inclusive
entity. They host a good variety of sports and promote a real openness throughout the whole of the region.
“As CEO of Commsworld, we found that the club’s high standards and values very much mirror our own and with the strong
emphasis on the development of young people and local initiatives it was an easy decision to become the club’s main sponsor!
“Recognition also has to be extended to the current committee who seem to be deepening the DNA of this historic club which
has continued to serve their community helping develop and deliver as they approach their 100th year.
“Myself and everyone at Commsworld would like to wish everyone at Boroughmuir Rugby and Community Sports Club the very
best of continued success as they embark on another chapter of this great club’s history!”
