Preston Lodge Ben Jones has had a long association with the club and told us, “Being raised locally in Longniddry I came through the school and naturally progressed to the club, playing U16s and for the U18s. I played mainly in the position of centre up until my mid-twenties when work commitments took over a little but I has always maintained a close relationship with the club, predominantly through the many friends I am grateful to have there. Community Clubs can sound like a bit of a cliché these days but Preston Lodge has always had the attribute of attracting people and have more than their fair share of good people who are willing to go to any lengths to make you feel welcome. When you walk through the doors at Preston Lodge everyone is on a level playing field. A good friend of mine Blair Cowan, who came to the game later than most of us and is playing out his final season, has been a real lynch pin and one of those outstanding characters who has grown beyond belief, certainly as a player but in many other ways also. The thing that strikes me about Preston Lodge is its ability to manage the playing and business side of the club so successfully, whilst always looking at ways where they can improve. My business, Source Developments, are also a club sponsor and I like to help out anytime I’m asked, it allows me to give something back for all the great memories and friendships I have enjoyed. I have thoroughly enjoyed the teams style of rugby while watching them compete this season and wish everyone associated with Preston Lodge Rugby Club the very best of continued success!” The dedicated and expert resource for furniture, fittings and equipment Tel: 0131 557 6123 www.sourcedevelopments.com 29 York Place, Edinburgh, Scotland. The club has very much a one club mentality and everyone is keen to promote and connect in the local community. Gala days and events are always an opportunity to demonstrate the face of Preston Lodge which might include giving out flyers or during an invitation event getting the drummers and pipers to welcome the visiting team onto the park. The mini/junior teams are the future of the club and it’s important to keep the kids interested. My business, Neptune Larder, are a club sponsor and I like to help out when I can. Best wishes to everyone at the club for the future.” Danny Mack www.rugbyclubmag.com 61
