“My dad worked as an engineer and moved to the Shrewsbury area in the late 60s. I attended boarding school back then with rugby being high up on
the school’s curriculum and being a tall slim fellow and quite athletic, I usually ended up playing either 2nd or back row.
Unfortunately, a serious leg break put an end to my playing career at just 15 years old which was quite a shock to me at the time. When my son Lewis
showed a keen interest in the sport it gave me an opportunity to become involved again.
Lewis started playing as a six-year-old and has continued all the way through to senior rugby, is currently hooker for the first team squad with so many
weekends taking both of us out into the club as well as the usual away trips.
It’s become a real family affair for us with my wife Caroline, daughter Abbie and even our dog’s, Milo and Bertie, being regular visitors to the club.
Rugby offers so much to those involved but very often the work behind the scenes and the efforts of organisers and coaches can sometimes be not as
apparent to the shorter term visitor who doesn’t really see the hours put in. It is a natural part of club life to resolve any challenges and look for a positive
outcome and the club have made real headway in many areas over past years.
For whatever reason, I have kept on keeping on and I am only a small part of a group of many excellent individuals who go well beyond Shrewsbury
Rugby Club and who have taken it to the levels that it is proud to have reached.
It’s been a fabulous season on many different fronts and I would like to wish everyone associated with the club the very best of continued success for
many years to come!”

Andrew Goddard of Principal Club sponsor,
Morris Lubricants, recently told Rugby Club
Magazine, “I played rugby for my school and at
University mainly as a centre and have continued
to love the sport ever since. Our previous CEO,
John Alton, still a club Stalwart was a great
support of Shrewsbury and still is. Many of my
friends played for the club and our business,
Morris Lubricants, have sponsored the club
for the past eleven years and very much enjoy
contributing a little to this great club.
This season has been exceptional with the
seniors remaining undefeated. I have to say that
as a company and personally we really appreciate
the way the club and its members have treated
and valued us over the years. Their hospitality
and friendship, particularly on the Sportsman’s
day are second to none, I have always felt most
welcome!
In recognition of the 2018/2019 season we
are making a special presentation trophy for
them. I would like to congratulate everyone at
the club on their unprecedented achievements
this season and look forward to seeing you all
soon!”
