Their President Glyn Jones recently took the time to tell us more about the good work they’ve been doing lately. Involvement The Role He told us, “I have been involved with Shrewsbury Rugby Club since 1968 (U16s/junior Colts), after being selected for the U16 County side the Shrewsbury Colts coach came to watch me in a school game and invited me to attend training at Shrewsbury, allowing me to train and play with better coaches and players. With the exception of a five-year hiatus from the age of 16 to 21, I’ve been a member ever since and as such have completed duties in all capacities on the committee and beyond. I am currently President of our club.” “The challenges mainly surround conflict between sections of the club who have different priorities as someone has to make decisions and you can’t please everyone all of the time. The challenge is balancing ‘nice to have’ against ‘need to have’. The club is only in its current healthy state due to careful management and there are not many people who still recall the days when we had no money and appalling facilities. The rewards for me are seeing the club thrive and getting the occasional thanks from those who understand how much work is required by a few people 42 Issue 85 to achieve everything. I also take great satisfaction from being involved in improvements to the club, facilities and grounds over the last fifteen years and seeing the enjoyment the youngsters get on a Sunday morning.” Atmosphere “The mood at our club is exceptionally positive at the moment with all sections performing well and enjoying their rugby. Success on the pitch drives success off it and helps with sponsorship and raising funds through social events.
