While on the pitch we go as a club where our players take us, so if promotion comes along to Midlands Premier come the end of April then we will relish the challenges that await us.” 2019 Youth “In 2019 the plan is to enjoy ourselves! We have a significant amount of functions booked throughout next Youth rugby is VITAL to our continued growth and success. In recent 1st team league games we have had 17 out of the 18 players who came through our M/J and Youth Sections and we have played five of our Under 18’s in the first team so far this season and we are certainly not frightened to play more of them if we feel they are ready.” Integration “Ten years ago, we set up a ‘Youth’ Section, which was aimed at transitioning our players from U16 through U17, then U18 and into Senior Rugby. Whilst the “I played school rugby and my dad John’s mate was involved with rugby so I would be taken to matches where I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. This definitely influenced my appetite for the sport. Back in the 70s I would be at high profile fixtures against the likes of Coventry. At age 54, I still play loose head and although being married with a young family stopped me playing from a young age I did return to rugby at age 35 when my son Laurence started playing. Last year I was also the club’s President. It’s very important for Rugby nationally and of course for Kettering to keep the life blood flowing, if this vital producer of junior players was cut off it would definitely have a negative effect. Kettering have a very good reputation for growing talent at the club and is steadfast in its ambition to continue doing so. To maintain four or five senior teams this continued influx is vital. As a great family club the tour to Lincoln later this year will again cement relations and I encourage everyone, young and old, to come along - enjoyment is guaranteed. Kettering RFC is very much an open house where we welcome all and I look forward to many future seasons with everyone enjoying this great club.” George Turner www.rugbyclubmag.com 83
