Kettering Kettering RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB Kettering RFC enjoyed a fine year in 2018 and their first team currently finds them involved in a title race. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Secretary Peter may to find out more about the club. Involvement He told us, “Although I have been involved with the club since the early 80s, having all sorts of roles both on and off the pitch and having now spent well over twenty years as Club Secretary it is only since I retired from teaching that along with another club stalwart Doug Bridgeman we have been able to bring a more organised and professional look and attitude to the club, particularly off the field. Kettering is a family club with work continually being done to make the club seamless from the Under 5’s to the 1st XV and in then in players later years the Vets! I came to the Kettering club first in a coaching role with the Under 16’s after moving back to the county from first Yorkshire where I was involved with Selby Rugby Club and then Lincolnshire where I refereed in the Notts, Lincs and Derbyshire Referees Society. Today I see in our 1st XV some of the sons of the players I coached as Under 16’s all those years ago which I suppose in some way is the reason I joined the club as even in those days back in the 80’s Kettering Rugby Club was already a family club and something I wanted to be part of!” The Role “I have several roles at the club as well as being Club Secretary and all the roles have many challenging and rewarding moments, for example getting people to book tables for our www.rugbyclubmag.com 81
