O
RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
kehampton RFC has been in existence since 1884 and has been
active continuously apart from breaks for the two World Wars.
The club was nomadic in its earlier existences and in the period from
1948 to the 1960’s used changing facilities in pubs and played at
Simmons Park in Okehampton, amongst other sites.
“I played football and rugby as a kid with my sports teacher encouraging me to play Rugby as
an 11-year-old and this started my love of the sport, continuing to play colts and then senior
rugby. I was a first team player at Okehampton for seventeen years, mainly as scrum half and
still play the odd veteran’s game. My son Max has played since he was six years old now plays
for the U13s, loves rugby and is a good tackler.
It is a great family club with a fabulous community connection. Howden’s who I work for
are sponsors and it is a great joy to see young people develop in the sport. I would like to
encourage everyone at the club to continue to embrace the core values of rugby and to enjoy
themselves and the sport.”
