RUGBY CLUB
St Neots Rugby Club has worked very hard in recent times to install
a one club mentality and have been seeing the benefits of that
approach in recent times. Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up
with Club Representative Tommy McCollin to find out more.
Involvement
He told us, “I have been a member of the club since U9s,
playing through the age groups until seniors. Then, as a senior,
I have played for the 1sts, 2nds, 3rds and now vets, so my
association with the club is around thirty years.
In my role as the Director of Rugby my biggest challenge is
splitting my time between all the age groups whilst coaching
my own U16 side. Whenever possible I will try to make myself
visible and active within the other age groups but with now
over 350 mini and junior members it can be a challenge, trying
to support all coaches and answering questions and making
myself approachable and available can be tough at times
but watching our little club go from strength to strength and
seeing all the volunteers helping the kids enjoy themselves and
enjoying rugby is a fantastic feeling.”

“At the start of the year the new committee set out their
plan to improve not only the facilities but also the whole ethos
of the club, coupled with the commitment from players and
coaches we are well on the way to achieving what we set out
to do.
This is the first year of our club development plan
with regards to the playing and coaching side also. This is
already well under way and looking to exceed expectations.
Membership is up in both senior men, ladies and minis and
juniors with superb turnouts to training and on field displays
from all sides going great guns.
In our junior section we have multiple age groups with
10+ players at representative rugby caps and even a couple at
regional standard, so I would say that this year is a good year.”
