Phoenix decision now. We will finish in the top half of the league this season and we have ambitions for a top two place 2019/20. Off the field, the appointment of new caterers, Brian Dixon’s Blackbird Food House, staffed by the very talented chef Julija, has transformed the post-match meals and our new head physio, Nicole Brooks has made being injured a pleasure!” What Next? “Our plans for the start of 2019 are to focus on recruitment and retention for the seniors and juniors. We are looking to engage the services of ex-England current Wasps player, Katie Mason through her company Lion Sports. We aim to go in to the local schools in the area and hold assemblies and rugby lessons and then invite any interested children to rugby camps and training sessions at Phoenix. Katie will hopefully also mentor our senior coaches and take strategic coaching sessions. We have appointed a local businessman and current Phoenix player, Nick Pidgeon, as our dedicated Recruitment and Retention officer and, through his efforts, we have secured funding from Bucks RFU to support our Junior development programme. On the field, we will continue to drive the 1st XV, under captain Tom Porter, to a successful second half of the season.” Youth “We see youth rugby as not only an important asset of the club, but also an integral part of sport in the community. We think that the RFU’s values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are key to the development of young people and are proud that we are able to offer this at Phoenix. “I have been involved one way or another with Phoenix for around ten years now having relocated to the area. I sponsored them for a couple of years on and off, paying for some shirts etc. I played in the second row between 2008 – 2017 but had to stop playing due to injury. I still play occasionally for the club and get down to watch when I can and the performances have been very positive for a young team. Good luck to everyone associated with the club for the rest of the season and hopefully they can push on for a top three finish.” Neil Wincomb, Bamboo Medical Proud to support Phoenix Rugby Club www.bamboo-medical.com www.rugbyclubmag.com 57
