“I played rugby at school for St Ambrose High; Charles Fawcett, the school’s physics teacher was a great rugby guy and
was instrumental in encouraging students into rugby and into the club. A majority of the club’s players between the mid-
90s and 2000 were from the school and through the encouragement of Charles. I played for the school and club from age
12 and am still a current player at aged 36, playing at either fullback or wing.
Many years of struggles have culminated in a successful season which we hope to build on moving forward with the first
task being to win the league. The team has developed a winning mentality and if the boys can believe in themselves then

We’ll also be upgrading our existing facilities to improved
accessibility provision.
We’re also delighted to announce that we’ve secured
a three-year partnership deal with Cairnhill Structures of
Coatbridge. A local business who are passionate about rugby
and steel fabrication. They are mad keen to be involved at
a community level. Cairnhill Structures will take principle
sponsor position across all playing teams from youth through
to 1st XV. In a club first, we’ll see Cairnhill Structures branding
on all our playing strips. We’ll also be looking to work with
Group Managing Director Neil Watson to look at other
initiatives outside of rugby where we can offer training, work
experience and apprenticeship opportunities as part of our
youth programmes.”

Cairnhill structures who as a company have a great
affiliation with rugby. Neil told us, “I was a local lad
who played rugby mainly at school for Glasgow
High, starting off in 2nd row and as my teammates
were growing I remained the same so ended up in
the back row, then Standoff, centre and wing.
I have great admiration for the rugby club and
their vision moving forward to continue developing
young people from their local community, this
is really the challenge for many rugby clubs to
maintain their level. I was impressed by the club’s
ambitions and decided to become a principal
sponsor.
Rugby has changed very much over the years
with the SRU managing size differentials amongst
players easing the worry amongst parents about
their seven stone son coming up against a 16
stone forward. Fitness and strength conditioning
has also played a big part where 20-30 years ago
weight training was less and many players were
around the same weight - 8 stone or so soaking
wet!
I admire very much the enthusiasm and
enjoyment the club are exhibiting not to mention
the great efforts they are putting into the local
community in what is predominantly a footballing
