RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
Sleaford RFC reached their 40th anniversary not long ago and look to be
well set up for a bright and successful future. Rugby Club Magazine recently
caught up with Club Representative Tim Schofield to find out more about
the good work they’ve been doing lately.
Involvement The Role
He told us, “I have been with Sleaford
Rugby Club for nine years since my
son started playing for the U7s. From
being a parent, I got asked to help raise
funds and now look after fund raising
and grants for the committee, which is
a nonstop role of trying to get as much
money into the club as possible to help
us improve facilities.” “Obviously, many clubs, societies
and individuals want the grants and
coming up with fundraising events is
very important. Our biggest event is
our bonfire night which is the biggest
display in the local community and this
year we had nearly 4000 people attend
which was an achievement as four years
ago we only broke even on it. With the
100 Issue 83
help of a team of volunteers and good
marketing we have shown we can create
a great event and raise funds for the club.
Our greatest achievement was when
we won the ‘best grass roots club’ in
England award, a Natwest/RFU event.
For a small market town rugby club
beating some very big clubs with much
bigger support, we got the backing of
the whole community which helped us
win.”
