RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
Waysiders Drumpellier RFC has been enjoying a fantastic season this
time around and are mounting a serious title challenge. Rugby Club
Magazine recently caught up with their President Chris McGuigan to
find out more about the good work they’ve been doing lately.
Atmosphere
“The general mood is really positive at the club; the senior
team have been sitting top of the West Regional League 3 until
recently. A spot we will regain by the end of the season. Our
goal is promotion and a league title win.
We’ve a buoyant youth division with boys and girls
participating from ages 3 right the way through to under 18’s.
Although our numbers at under 16 and above are in single
digits. However, we look to signpost these boys and girls to
other clubs to ensure they get game time and stay in the sport.”
This Season
“Season 2018/19 marks the 25th Anniversary of the
amalgamation of Drumpellier RFC of Coatbridge est 1950, and
Waysiders RFC of Airdrie est 1976. So it’s a big year for us on
the pitch, and off the pitch. The year so far has been positive
we sat undefeated in the league run until our first game in
January. Some of the festive cobwebs contributing to that sore
loss at Mull, however we’ll bounce back.
I’m almost certain we’ve got the best defensive record of all
the leagues, conceding the least amount of try’s against us. Our
under 15’s boys and under 15’s girls teams are a real force to be
reckoned with. Massively down to the passion and enthusiasm
from the coaches. We’ve also recently started micros rugby on a
Sunday morning. We really do have something for everyone.”
2019
“In 2019 we aim to break ground on our changing room
extension. We’ve been lucky enough to secure funding
from Scottish Rugby and Sportscotland to develop a new
addition to the existing setup. This will include a medical and
