Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their Club Captain Charlie Byrd to find out more about how they have been getting along lately. Involvement He told us, “This year has been my 6th season at the club, what attracted me was the welcoming atmosphere of everyone with a very social bunch of people. The biggest challenge as always about being captain is maintain a regular team; we are a social club that plays rugby so people aren’t 100% committed to playing week in week out as much as I would like. This means there is a different team out most weeks which makes winning regularly tough. The rewards though are amazing, it’s an honour to be Captain of Claverdon RFC, to make the speeches and give out all the awards to the deserved individuals is something that 70 Issue 79 will stay with me forever. Winning as a Captain and leading your team to a well-deserved victory is hard to beat, I’m not sure if it can be!” Present “The general mood is a good one; we have successfully put out two teams virtually every weekend for the whole season. Even though the results haven’t gone our way for the second half of the season there is and always will be a great vibe down at our club. One of our sayings is ‘win or lose, on the booze’. And we’ve certainly done that this year.
