Bridgend Athletic
“I first started supporting BARFC in the
early 1980’s and joined the committee
in late 80’s until 2013. I started doing
BARFC press reports by hand in around
1988 and initially delivering them
by hand to local newspapers The
Glamorgan Gazette and Gem.
Eventually in the 1990’s I used
computer and e mails. In the 90’s I also
set up the first BARFC website with the
help of a computer lecturer Gwyn Jones
and administered that website until
2016 when the club joined a WRU run
website which is today administered
by David Perry. David played and
captained the Athletic in its early
1970’s years and became a committee
man and treasurer of the club. Today he
is a major sponsor of the club through
his Business Church Village Travel.
A young committee man, Lewis Down,
administers the official club Facebook
sites. The club Match Reports and
general news appears weekly in the
Gazette and Gem as well as both
official club sites.

From 1982-2000 the statistics were
compiled by hand by the late Barrie
Morris - a real club stalwart, Match
Secretary, Treasurer, Committeeman
etc.
– no records were officially
published. In 2003, I took over the club
statistics for the senior 1st and 2nd XV
teams computerising and publishing
them on the website I administered.
Last summer after retiring I was given
Barrie’s old hand-written books by his
family and over a few months compiled
around 36 years of cumulative records
– so to the best of available data could
ascertain leading appearances, try
scorers, points scorers etc. These are
under ‘Club’ on the Official website.
With assistance I also compiled a list
of players with International honours
who played at some stage rugby for the
Athletic age groups, youth or seniors.
I have been awarded Clubman of The
Year and Life Membership.”
