RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

St Albans RFC has enjoyed a terrific season this time around with their first team being crowned champions . In the league they put together a record of fifteen wins and one defeat from their sixteen matches to finish with a total of 72 points .
This was a superb achievement for the team and was a just reward for all of the hard work that has gone into making the club a success . Plans have already started for next season and as long as they are able to keep their current group of players together and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be in with a good chance of pushing on .
Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with Club Representative Josh Burnell to find out more about the good work that they have been doing lately and also to gain an insight into their success .
He told us , “ My role in the 1st team squad is as second row forward and line out caller and I find it challenging every game to know when to make the right call at the right time and place on the field .”
“ The mood down the club is unbelievable at the moment from the mini and juniors right up to the seniors and everyone else involved . On and off the field you won ’ t find a better club to be at than the buns .
“ At the end of the 16 / 17 season the mood wasnnt great with only getting seven to ten at training and getting relegated to the bottom division but I think that ’ s what we needed ; a kick up the backside !
“ Throughout the 17 / 18 season things changed . We were getting 20 + training and places in the team were harder to get . But if it wasn ’ t for the hard work of the coaches , commitee and players we wouldn ’ t have been where we are now ; league champions .
“ Plus back in the 13 / 14 season we lost our 1st game and won the league , four years on we ’ ve done the same thing . We are hoping to get a youth team up and running as soon as possible .
“ One last thing to mention , I would like to thank on behalf of the team for their hard work and sticking by us through thick and thin every single person involved from the past to the present for your continued support on making sure we keep moving forward as one .”
