Neil Campbell , the manager and chef of the Weigh Inn recently spoke to Rugby Club Magazine , saying , “ It ’ s a great achievement for the club to achieve top 40 amongst Scottish Rugby clubs this season and well deserved . I have many family and friends associated with the club and Tommy McGee has done a great coaching job in bringing the lads together .
The Weigh Inn has been a long term sponsor of the club and we often see the lads and club members here . Myself and all our staff would like to congratulate all the teams at Caithness Rugby Club on another great season and wish everyone the very best of continued success !”
“ I have had a long association with my families beloved game for many years now since both my sons joined micros in our home town of Wick tucked away in the far north of Scotland . I was always there or there abouts usually providing a car to ferry the boys south under the watchful eye of nationally recognised and now head coach at Dundee HSFP Colin Sangster .
As the boys grew into senior rugby I felt I had more to offer the club and moved into a position on the committee as Sponsorship convener and through no fault of my own the list grew and grew to include a First XV team manager , transport manager , barman , bus driver and Fundraising social organiser . So as you can imagine I ’ m a pretty busy boy !
I draw my inspiration for the club and the game from my two boys Grant and Marc who along their career path were both seriously injured . Marc fractured vertebrate in his spine playing for the U14s and Grant being involved in a serious road traffic collision sustaining a serious brain injury . Both , I am very proud to say , have made full recoveries and are still playing with Marc captaining the first XV .
I talk very highly of the boys but I also have two daughters JoAnne and Ellie with the latter turning out for the U15 girls team . Along with my wife Angela and without this family infrastructure I would not be able to function in the many roles I hold within the club . My family is also growing with five grandsons and a granddaughter so I hope that my bloodlines will have a long and fruitful career with Caithness RFC .
Things at Caithness RFC have come a long way in recent years with mini and micro numbers increasing , U15 girls making a Murrayfield final , U18 boys sharing a national shield title and the First XV gaining promotion into the national leagues and into the top forty of the fifth best rugby nation in the world , quite an achievement for a club from the frozen north .
Travel is our biggest hurdle with most of our teams travelling the length of the country to compete and without our many sponsors and new investments we would find this near on impossible . We welcome new sponsors with open arms with many hospitality deals available in our almost new clubhouse just to say thank you for all the support . We have just submitted plans to extend our already fantastic facility and will then move on to secure funding once planning has been agreed so plenty to keep us busy .
I ’ ll just finish off with a huge mention to our band of volunteers who give up their spare time to help make the club function , without these people we would not be doing so well .”
