RUGBY CLUB
I
t has been a season to remember for Caithness RC with
their first team being crowned champions of the BT
Caledonia League Division 1. Rugby Club Magazine recently
caught up with their President Peter Body to gain an insight
into their success.
Involvement
He told us, “I played schoolboy
rugby and have always been a big fan
of the game. I was first asked to help
back in 2006, to exploit my business
connections with a view to securing
more sponsorship. I subsequently joined
the committee but had to resign due to
business commitments.
Having taken semi-retirement I re-
joined the committee in 2014, being
appointed vice president in 2015 and
president in 2016. My business has been
a long time sponsor of the club.”
The Role
“We have a very pro-active and
experienced committee but are currently
without a secretary. I have therefore
taken on the dual role of president and
secretary. This has not been a particular
32 Issue 79
challenge but obviously takes up more
time than being president alone.
Although I am not directly involved
in the playing set-up, I take great
satisfaction from having presided over
our promotion to National League 3 -
a significant milestone in the club’s 56
year history.”
Atmosphere
“The general mood
at the club is one
of
excitement
and
positivity on the back
of our promotion to
the
national
set-up.
For
a
remote
northern club like ours this is a massive
achievement. I am sure, as a club, we
will grow in confidence with this new
found status. And, hopefully, become an
even better club and secure even greater
success.”
This Season
“The season has probably been our
best ever due to securing promotion
to the national leagues. Great credit is
due to head coach Tom McGee, who
only joined the club two years ago,
his back room team and the players’
commitment for achieving the
target they set themselves
at the beginning of
the season.
