As an accomplished player in his youth in Ireland , Old Mutual International Managing Director Peter Kenny has a lifelong involvement in the sport . The annual Old Mutual International Junior Rugby Festival is one example . Held every April since 2016 , the festival has grown steadily each year and is now a key element of the club ’ s on-going drive to nurture the next generation of players . This year the two-day event featured teams representing all of the rugby union clubs on the Island , plus sideshows and entertainment for all the family .
Old Mutual International also supports England Rugby ’ s Quilter Kids First scheme on the Isle of Man . Quilter Kids First puts children first . Aimed at U7-U13 , boys and girls , it upskills coaches and creates a great rugby environment , so that everyone stays in the game for longer .
Peter Kenny commented : “ Quilter Kids First is an excellent way to develop rugby on the Island at grassroots level . It provides the perfect introduction to the sport with the emphasis being on providing a fun way to convey the core values of rugby , and in doing so allow children to develop their confidence and life skills beyond the sports field .”
Quilter Kids First coaching sessions began in several schools on the Island earlier this year , and plans are in place to expand the scheme as more coaches achieve qualifications .
