Redditch in the season because of the loss of a few players and some early season injuries. This meant that they flirted with relegation all season leaving it to the last match of the campaign when they secured a five point win against local rivals Claverdon, whilst bottom club Tenbury provided the shock of the season to defeat our main rivals Birmingham Civil Service. The year was disappointing for our Veterans team who only managed three or four games during the season. Fixtures were often cried off at the last moment as teams evaporated on Saturday morning. The Junior Section performed well across the board with good numbers and some outstanding results on the field.” Present INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION STAND DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION Mast Displays have been successfully trading since April 2001 and have proven to excel in all areas of exhibition display management. “We are busy getting prepared for the new season. With the two most difficult sides promoted and four new teams in the league we are keen to test ourselves against them. Our Coach, Simon Fitzpatrick, has been trying to keep things simple and basic, playing committed, error free rugby. Signs that this was working came through last season as we had some excellent performances against strong clubs. We hope that the Veterans team will have better luck as we join a new initiative for Friday Night Casual and Vets Rugby with ten other local clubs. The games will be played under floodlights in a round robin format and everyone who wants a game will get one. It is all about having fun.” Situated in Wychbold, near Droitwich Spa, Mast Displays own 7000 square feet of manufacturing space and over 5000 square feet of storage. Our teams last season took the scalps of many local high flying clubs across the grades. We have a new, fresh committee in the junior section and they are looking forward to the challenge. We work with the RFU in supporting the All Schools Programme trying to get rugby into the schools of what has always seemed a football town. Many of our senior players and committee have transitioned from the junior ranks and there is a smattering of cross fertilization as hockey players are rugby mums and vice versa. Our emphasis is on providing a family club where there is something for everyone. We even have a boules court which is in regular use!” The team consists of Carpenters, Painter & Decorators, Labourers and Drivers. The company also owns their own mini fleet of vehicles, and everyone involved has over 30 years of experience within the exhibition industry. I started playing in 1967 and continued until 2001 when injuries took their toll, initially playing as a scrumhalf before moving to hooker. At one point I was first team captain and my nephew now has that honour. I’ve also sponsored the club for thirty years and hope that they can stay in the league they deserve to be in starting with pushing on next season. I wish everyone at the club all the best for the future.” Roy Mills, Mast Displays www.rugbyclubmag.com 95
