RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
Dixonians RFC endured a difficult period a couple of seasons ago but have
recovered superbly since then and are now looking forward to a bright future.
Rugby Club Magazine caught up with Club Representative David Hall to find
out more about the work they’ve been doing.
He told us, “I joined the club when I
was 18 in 1963 when the club was called
Old Dixonians being an old Boys club
from George Dixon Grammar school.
I attended another school and at the
time was not allowed to play in the 1st
XV team as I was not a former pupil
of the school but within two years the
club became open and I was the first
non-George Dixon ex pupil player to be
selected in the 1st team.”
“The club was a long way out of
Birmingham but the pickup point was
near my home and I knew many of the
members of the club from the local area.
The club was a very amateur side in
those days, when fitness training was all
that was done, and team or skills training
was a low priority.
“I went to college in Lancashire but
still played for the club in vacation times.
After college I taught PE for five years in
Skelmersdale and played and captained
Ormskirk RFC but eventually came back
