RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
N
ewbury Blues RFC is a fine example of a club that plays a vital role
in their local community and has been progressing well in recent
times. We caught up with Club Representative Hywel Price-Richards to
find out more about how they’ve been getting along lately.
Atmosphere
He told us, “The mood at the club
is fantastic at the moment. There’s
always a little bit of a break over the
Christmas period but we’re back
into it now and things are going well.
Our first team is a bit inconsistent
which is frustrating because we’re

certainly capable of competing at that
level so we are hoping to put that
right.”
weren’t able to compete at that level and
had to look at how things were run. We
introduced a new one club mentality
with a focus on being a vital part of the
community and I think a lot of people
have responded to that. All our young
players came through and have grown
together and that has been key to our
progress.” energy to the club – a bunch of nutters
really! I can’t speak highly enough of
the impact they’ve had; they enjoy their
rugby and are very committed and it is
great to see them doing so well. A lot
of hard work has gone into that and it
is going really well.”
Lee Goodall “It is always tricky to say where we
want to be in terms of league position;
we just want to be a sustainable rugby
club with lots of kids coming through
and representing the first team. We want
to continue to develop all aspects off
the club and if promotion comes along
as well that is brilliant but I don’t think
that’s the priority.
I think success will come our way
but if it does it will be as a result of the
processes that we have in place to fit in
with our philosophy. It is a happy club
at the moment with everyone enjoying
their rugby and I thoroughly enjoy
being a part of it.”
“We brought in Lee Goodall as a
coach and I think that he’s done an
excellent job. Not just with the seniors
but he takes a real interest in the juniors
as well and I think he’s a top man, I really
do. He’s very much a student of the game
and fits in well with the philosophy that
we have here. We’ve gone from barely
being able to field a second team to
where we are now with three regular
sides and the potential for a fourth so
things have really progressed.”
Ladies
Ambitions
“Our ladies were promoted last year
and they’re top of their table unbeaten
this year. They bring a real good
