Currently the team are unbeaten in the League at home, although it has been harder to pick up away wins. Each training session is building up the confidence and the camaraderie of the young team. Match Days at home have been memorable as spectators have flocked back, and both players and spectator alike have enjoyed hearty after match entertainment. The Walkerburn RFC name has been revived in the local district and people know that we exist again.” 2018 Youth “We are hoping to build on the hard work that went on in 2017 to keep the club moving forward. Player recruitment will continue and hopefully the success we are having will help with that. We will be looking to get involved in mini’s rugby with the help of our local Rugby Development Officer and we have already made early approaches to the headteacher of the two local primary schools. Walkerburn Rugby Sevens tournament on Saturday 26th May 2018 will be the main event of the year. We have successfully built a reputation for running one of the best organised tournaments in the junior circuit in the Borders and a lot of hard work will go into making the 2018 event another great day for the club and spectators alike.” “As we rebuild the club we are looking to get involved in running some mini’s rugby with the local primary schools in Walkerburn and Innerleithen. For this to happen we need to get our coaches qualified to the relevant level for starters. We already have good contacts with the schools and see a willingness on their part to get involved. Youth rugby has not been given a priority in the past but we see this as a fundamental part of the structures we are trying to put in place.” Services • Pipeline Services • Civil Engineering • Whole Scheme Solutions packages for clients • River Protection and flood prevention schemes • Agricultural Drainage Schemes • Drainage scheme consultancy • Ornamental and irrigation Ponds • Septic and clean water tank installations • All Weather Equestrian Arenas • Recreational pathways & MTB cycle ways Proud Sponsor of Walkerburn RFC Tel: +44 (0) 1896 830 487 or 831 264 Web: www.glendinninggroundworks.co.uk Address: 28 Chapel Street, Innerleithen, Peeblesshire EH44 6HN 66 Issue 76 Integration “As we currently sit in the East Development league the standard of rugby we are playing is ideal for introducing youngsters into the senior “I played for Walkerburn RFC for four seasons as an inside centre or winger, starting in the colts before progressing to the 2nd and then first teams. Unfortunately, I was injured in a motorbike accident at the age of 19, damaging my shoulder, which put an end to my playing days. I went on to sit on the Committee at the club but had to leave due to work commitments. I still try to get down to see as many games as possible and everyone always keeps me in the loop with what’s happening when I’m not there. I’ve sponsored the club for more than twenty years and annually support the Walkerburn RFC Rugby 7s. I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone at the club to keep doing what you are doing and also to wish them all the best for the rest of the season.” Robert Glendinning, Glendinning Groundworks
