However, I found that with perseverance people are willing to help, particularly when you ask them personally to help with a specific task. It is rewarding to get feedback from people in passing about how happy they are to see the club doing well again, and you find out how fondly the club is thought of, even outwith the immediate community. However, I feel happiest on a Saturday after five, with the clubhouse full of banter from players and spectators, after enjoying a home game. This makes all the hard work worthwhile.” The George Hotel Walkerburn Atmosphere “Morale is generally on a high at the moment down at Caberston Haugh. Last season we were unable to field a team in the leagues due to lack of playing numbers, only odd games were played against a touring Welsh team and an ex-players XV. Another year like that would have probably spelled the end of the club. However, after a recruitment drive over the summer we now have a growing squad of players ranging from young newcomers to experienced veterans and also to players who are new to the game of rugby. Backing the players up are a dedicated Committee who put in all the extra work that makes my job so much easier. On the whole there is a feeling that after the lows of last season we are now on the up again.
