heppey RFC is celebrating 125 years of rugby and
continues to play a vital role in their local community.
Rugby Club Magazine recently caught up with their
Chairman Tony Southgate to find out more about how the
club is getting along.
Atmosphere Present
He told us, “To be honest, the general
mood within the club is not very good
at the moment. We have only won
one game in the league all season and
presently lie 2nd from bottom and we
will most likely be relegated. This is
our 2nd season in London South East 3,
and last season we also came very close
to relegation, but we remain upbeat.” “Apart from the poor results from
our senior side, on the plus side our 2nd
team are doing very well, and our Junior
section on Sundays continues to attract
more than 60 juniors both male and
female at all ages from 5 to 16
We aim to apply more effort into our
new clubhouse project and also to having
first class floodlights fitted around the

1st team pitch. We cannot do both but
costs will decide which route we take.
We hope our junior section continues to
thrive and increase in numbers.”
Youth
“Our youth development program is
essential for our club. They will provide
the backbone of our 1st team in years to
