Derby FOLLOW US ONLINE TWITTER.COM/RUGBYCLUBMAG Derby RFC Supporting Rugby in the local community Derby RFC is based on Haslams Lane and their men’s first team currently competes in the National 3 Midlands League. They are led by the team of President Richard Lucas and Chairman Martyn Murney and the club is looking to progress under their guidance. So far this season their first team has put together a reasonable league campaign, having compiled a record of eight wins and nine defeats from their seventeen matches. This has left them sitting in a safe mid-table position with forty-six points on the board. This should provide them with a solid platform as they look to build for the future. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be in with a good chance of pushing on up the league. Derby is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section and this is reflected by the fact that they also run a colts team. This side looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own 38 Issue 76 talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters can progress in the coming years.
