RC : Would you consider yours to be a community club ?
RN : We have a strong services background and links with The Royal Navy , alongside a vast amount of local players all through the age groups into the senior team . We have also started to introduce more whole club activities such as senior players going to coach the youth sections on particular Sunday ’ s . We are also introducing whole club functions such as televised 6 Nations games after 1st XV fixtures to bring the whole club together .
RC : What do you believe could be some of the biggest challenges the club may face in the next five years ?
RN : One of the biggest challenges will be the continued development of our colts team , with under 15 / 16s age groups missing it will mean we will rely on local recruitment from colleges and sixth forms to continue this program .
The 1st XV squad is ambitious and the retention of players will also become a struggle if we are to move up a league and continue our vision for rugby . With that comes other clubs coming in for our top players , when they see the quality we have been nurturing . As I stated
before there are five clubs competing for an ever-decreasing pool of players .
RC : What are the clubs ambitions for the next five years ?
RN : We would like to develop our youth section , to ensure that we have at least one team for each age group . With that , we would like the link between the youth and senior sections to continue and strengthen further over the next few years . The senior club would like to progress into the London Leagues again , with the idea of moving forward and starting to produce more 1st XV players from the colts team .
