The site integrates with the RFU’s Game Management System (GMS) to help us streamline the management of club membership.” 2018 “We plan to continue to focus on player recruitment, development and retention, whilst ensuring our youth players continue to enjoy and develop their rugby. We believe this will help us remain in the South West B1 league and enable us to continue to run four regular senior teams. We will continue to implement capital projects around the club. In 2018, this will include additional security fencing and pathway lights around the perimeter of the club, and further investment in playing surfaces and improved drainage.” Community “The club’s growing reputation had attracted interest from outside rugby organisations: The Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers rugby team based at Lyneham regularly use our facilities to play midweek matches. We were delighted to be the first club in Wiltshire to be recognised as an official Wooden Spoon Partner Club and we continue to support the charity in all the great work they do in the county. We hosted a Floodlit Festival at the club for Wiltshire Wooden Spoon - Rugby’s charity for disadvantaged children - involving Under 9s and Under 11s sides from 14 different clubs. In April, the club hosted the RFU Women’s Cup Finals with twelve top women’s rugby teams playing in Royal Wootton Bassett. The tournament saw a large crowd from the local community, plus fans from further afield, enjoying a sunny day of first class rugby by women’s teams such as Bristol RFC, Wasps RFC and Gloucester - Hartpury RFC. We have strong relationships with local schools and colleges and we hosted the Swindon Schools Year 7’s Tournament with six local schools taking part on a rainy November day. We have also developed connections with Lewis Moody’s Mad Dog Rugby Academy and we host their training sessions at our club.” Facilities “We have announced plans to upgrade to the training facilities at Ballards Ash with a new state-of-the- art gymnasium facility. The club wants to create a new indoor ’Strength & Conditioning Barn’, which would be half the width of a rugby field, incorporating a fully-equipped gymnasium, a 30 metre indoor sprint track, specialist medical studios and new offices for staff. The facilities at Ballards Ash are already much admired by the Rugby fraternity. But it is vital that we have a top-class facility for the squad to train at, to develop the calibre of players we want to play at the club. The club enjoys incredible support from the local community, so it is planned that the fitness facilities would also be made available to Club Members and local community groups alike. The development will also convert the club’s former Tractor Shed into a new Club Office and a purpose built Club Merchandise Shop, sited for ease of access and releasing much needed space within the main clubhouse. The facility will be built on space behind the club’s changing rooms currently filled by temporary storage containers, replacing the unsightly containers with a purpose built kit room and equipment store. The block will also include two new Physio Studios/Medical Rooms with adjoining showers.” Fundraising “The next steps are to finalise the finances and organise additional fundraising before appointing the build contractors to start work. www.rugbyclubmag.com 11
